Two new productions for the American Movie Classic's
"Back Story" series featuring "classics"
of the 90's, Oliver Stone's "JFK" and Martin
Scorsese's "Goodfellas." The programs take
an intimate look at the story behind the story, revealing
how these groundbreaking films generated both admiration
and controversy.
Pacific Street principals Joe Sucher and Steve Fischler
were aptly suited to take on this task. Products of
the NYU Film School during the late sixties and early
seventies, Sucher and Fischler were students of Scorsese
and classmates of Stone. In 1990, they produced MARTIN
SCORSESE DIRECTS for PBS's "American Masters"
series. The documentary was a probing look at the
work of this pre-eminent director, and much of it
was filmed on the set of "Goodfellas." Two
years later, they produced OLIVER STONE: INSIDE OUT,
for Showtime and the BBC. In similar fashion they
probed the mind of America's most controversial director
while he was engaged in directing his classic, JFK.
A decade later, AMC "Back Story" takes a look at the "big picture,"
and examines how these two powerful films shook far
more than the walls of the movie theater and became
the most talked-about celluloid creations of the decade.
"Back Story" is an original production
of American
Movie Classics.
