When Micchael Benton arrived at NYU Film School in 1969
the only thing that concerned him was how to fast-track
it to Hollywood. However, world events – along
with sex, drugs and 16 mm film – conspired to
take him in quite a few different directions…
Although there are similarities with the real career path taken by Steve Fischler
and Joe Sucher, FILM SCHOOL, creates a new, fictional
reality, using characters based on some of the luminaries
who passed through NYU Film School’s hallowed
halls.
FILM SCHOOL will also draw upon the actual footage
shot during Steve and Joe’s tumultuous tenure
at NYU --the demonstrations, the building takeovers,
the chaos, the parties, and the visits by FBI and
RED SQUAD agents. Vintage footage of a young Martin
Scorsese, along with classmate Oliver Stone and Yippie
conspirator Abbie Hoffman will provide compelling
background to a story of young film students in search
of Hollywood’s holy grail: a three picture studio
deal.
FILM SCHOOL will be a sweeping personal feature that
will capture the intrigue, the excitement, the cynicism
and the passion of filmmaking in a creative incubator
– a crucible that forged some of Hollywood’s
most influential artists.
